Theme Update
This week we are wrapping up our Communities and Mapping Unit. At the conference I attended Friday and Saturday (Discovery Channel's Educator Network Regional Conference) I was able to use their online software and create a way cool to study for the test. If you follow this link ( http://students.discoveryeducation.com/genericStudentIndex.cfm?cdPasscode=QED39-3FBF) you can view videos that review the content we covered in this unit and then take the multiple choice quiz to help review for the test, which is on Friday. You can do it as often as you want or not at all; it is completely optional!
Today we are having a parent come in to talk about where our food comes from to prepare us for our field trip to the farm (Fritzler ...

Theme Update
This week we are going to be talking about our community members. We will be reviewing what these valuable members do and how important they are to our communities. One of the community members will be the town mayor. This is our way to cover the election process (without using the real candidates). Anyone in the town can run for mayor. We will be having elections on Friday and all community members can vote. Students that are interested in running can come to class on Wednesday ready to share their 'ideas' on what they would do as mayor. They can ...

Today we started moving our desks around to make a border around our town. We made our coordinate grids and streets. We then put in our houses that we made in class. Students are welcome to bring them in early if they want : )
3 Day Week-Conferences

Theme Update
This week in Theme we will be talking about our own towns and what are the key components of a town (needs versus wants). We will be using our own towns as models of what we want in the town we will be building in class. For our classroom town we will be creating our own town laws, voting for a mayor and reviewing coordinated grid maps. Each student will be making a house for the town in class and then a town building for homework. Look in this week's homework folders for their two week town building assignment. These are not due until October 6th, but can come in earlier if you finish early.

Tomorrow night you will get to meet their teachers. During the conferences in October we will be going over their specific testing with you so you can see how exactly they did and what they need to work more on this year. The students did very well remember what to bring to class, where to go and to collect their homework. It is amazing how great they are at picking this up.
Purple Homework Folders came home today as well. These are not due back, along with homework in them and reading logs, until Friday. They are welcome to turn work in early.&a ...

Students have done great settling into our daily routine and have earned many marbles for our classroom marble jar. This week second graders will also be taking the ERB test (Education Records Bureau). We use this test as part of our accreditation report for the state and the district. Our students always do very, very well on this test, so no need to fret. We only request that all second graders be here on the days we take it (Tuesday and Thursday) of this week) so ...
