Weekly Theme Update-

Last week everyone turned in their favorite family recipe.  It was great that we will all get to share our family recipes and the memories around them.  This week will be our final week for the family unit and in celebration, everyone needs to bring in their favorite family food (ideally the same as last week's recipe).  I have many families signed up, but if I haven't heard from you by the end of Monday, I will be making some phone calls to get you signed up!

This week we will be working on our final drafts of our Family Trees.  The kids did a great job on their rough drafts of their family trees the week before last.  Now we just need to put them on a poster and make them beautiful.  One of the nice touches one of the kids did in class is to actually draw a tree in the back ground and put the family tree outline over the top of it.  It was ... Weekly Theme Update
Last week we went over our family trees (up to grandparents and other immediate family).  The kids really enjoyed seeing me draw mine on the board and we all enjoyed learning more about each other's families and how to make a family tree.  They all did a great job on this activity!

This week we will be continuing our unit on the Family.  We will be taking the information we gathered last week for homework and constructing our Family Shields in class.  We will also be reading stories about families and how great they are.  This week students will be asked to bring in a Family recipe for homework.  Please make sure they write (not create) these on their own.  Remember also that I will be copying these and making them into a classroom Family Recipe cookbook that we will all get a copy of, so make sure to pick one you are willing ... Literacy and Math in Full Swing

In this week's Weekly Folder, you will be receiving a report on how your child did with our Fall assessments and who their teachers will be for Literacy and Math.   Last Wednesday was our first day of switching and the kids are doing really well with it.  On Tuesday night, you will get to meet your child's Literacy and Math teachers and to see what they will be covering for the year and learn their expectations.  Seeing as this is our first full week of switching, expect to see homework from all classes, including Theme, in their purple Homework Folder.  If it doesn't come home, just shoot me an email so I can remind them :)

Congratulations Class!!!!

Our class is the winner for the most in attendance to ... Read More »

Switching Soon

Testing is taking a wee bit longer this year and thus we will start switching no later than Wednesday.  When we do start switching we will let you know with a note home that day!  Thank you for your patience!

Ebooks Due Tuesday, the 11th

The first week of school we sent home a packet with an E-book for our annual fundraising campaign.  If you will not be selling any E-books, please send the packet back with the E-book enclosed.  If you choose to sell the E-books, please make sure to send the packet back with the proper money enclosed.  You can sell the enclosed book too or send it back.  Just make sure to note it on the order form if you sold it.

This week in Theme-Friendship Unit

This week our activities will be based on what is a friend and some good character traits of a friend.  Their is a brief homework assignment on 'What is a friend?' for your child to complete and return by Friday.  We will continue finishing up our assessments of the children on their reading, spelling, writing and math abilities this week.  We will be done by the end of the week in order to sort them and place them into like-ability groupings for class next Monday!

Every week, in my classroom, students will get the opportunity to share once a week.  On Tuesdays, students with last names starting with A throuh La will get to share.  On Thursdays, students with the last names starting with Le through Z will ... Read More »

If you have any boxes that can hold books (and be lifted) please send them in.  Also, if you have time in the afternoon this week or during the day and you can help me pack up the room, it would be much appreciated.  We are to have our rooms completely packed up by Friday afternoon.  Thank you!

As we get to the end of the year and the weather gets warmer, we are forgetting the policies in certain areas: dress code and electronics.  Please refer to the specifics on these areas in your Community Handbook, under Student Behavior (p.29).  We have had an addition to the dress code in that children should be wearing non-flip-flop shoes for their safety!  Thank you for your help with remembering and adhering to these policies.
