Take a look at what is going on in our classroom

By Heidi Huey on 3/22/2007

We have another Field Trip on the Monday, April 2nd, the day we get back from Spring Break!  We will be going to the Paramount Theatre to see Junie B. Jones.  We will be leaving at about 10:30 and getting back at 1:30.  Please make sure to send your child with a sac lunch that morning!  Also, check the weather to see if they need sunscreen (for lunchtime) or a raincoat.  It is that time of year of wacky spring weather!

This is the last week we are working on Rocks and Minerals!  This week we will be learning about minerals and how to identify them.  This week is a very busy week with the book fair, CSAP’s, and Fun Friday. In addition we will be having a guest speaker come in on Thursday to talk to us about Rocks and Minerals.  Thank you Mrs. Huppert for setting this up for us!

Knowing that last week was the first week of the time change I expected tardiness to go up again.  I do want to express the importance of getting here a little earlier in the morning for we start our day as soon as that 8:00 bell rings.  In order to be successful in the morning we need to be lined up before the 7:55 bell goes off so we can put our stuff into our cubbies, check in, get a chair and a pencil so we can start our day.  When we have CSAP’s on Wednesday’s like we did last week and this, we must be in our specials class by 8:00!  Please try your best to get to school early everyday!  Thank you for your help in making your child’s start to their day a successful one!

This week is the book fair.  Our class will get the opportunity to go as a class on Wednesday during theme.  Students can just get ideas on what to buy that day, or bring money.  Students will be able to also go during recess or during some free time during the week with a pass.  You and your family are also able to go after school.  Look in this week’s Weekly Information on the dates and times.  Don’t forget that you can also go to the book fair on Friday and then play Bingo as a family.

Our class won for highest participation on the 1-2 team!  Due to this we have earned an ice cream party due to our great spirit.  We will be having this great event on Friday at 12:15 after recess.  What I need is some parents to come in to help scoop some ice cream during recess so it is ready to eat when them come back in.  If you can come in to help out let me know.

I have found two parents whom are willing to burn us all a copy of our Fancy Dancing routine- ‘I missed the bus’.  I will send these home to you as soon as I get them back-probably shortly after spring break.

I am still in need of any pictures from field trips or classroom parties.  If you were the photographer at one of these great events, please burn me a copy.  My goal is to burn all the pictures for the year onto one cd for each child by the end of the year!  Thanks for your help with this.

This week we are working on our second week of Rocks and Minerals!  This week we will be learning about the three main types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic as well as about the rock cycle.  This week our daily schedule will be off a bit due to CSAPs going on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for other grades.  We will be having specials first thing in the morning those three days, so be very sure to be here on time this week!  Don’t forget we have Library Monday during the first half of theme.

This week we will be starting a new round of specials.  This round of specials we will be having art and Spanish.  Monday we will have art and then Tuesday we will have Spanish and then alternating daily there after.  Don’t forget to look on my calendar for what special we have that day.

This week you will be seeing handwriting practice sheets coming home that are incomplete.  Don’t worry, they are supposed to be!  I picked up this new brain-based handwriting program at the Literacy conference I went to in February.  The research behind it is that handwriting is stored in the same place as your emotions.  This program (supported with many, many years of implementation and research) addresses that research and has detailed patterns that they work on daily, with almost meditation like music to go with it to help them focus on the skill that day.  Students who are doing their best will be coming home with extremely neat, incomplete sheets.  Read More »

Have you been on any of our field trips or come to any of our classroom parties and taken pictures?  If you have some, please let me know, burn them to a cd and send them in before Spring Break.  I am in the process of putting them all together onto one CD and burning everyone a copy.  We also have a DVD copy of our ‘Fancy Dancing’ session of Missing the Bus.  I do not have a way to burn DVD’s but would also like to make a copy of this for each student, it is a must have.  If you have a DVD burner and time, please let me know.  I will provide the disks.  Than ...
